SEO: What is it?

One of the most important and most potentially confusing web marketing buzzwords is SEO. SEO stands for “search engine optimization” – basically, it’s how you make it easier for search engines like Google and Bing to know to display YOUR website when a user searches for what you’re offering. It’s how you make sure your audience can find you.

At its most basic, SEO means making sure a search engine can find you. And if search engines can find you, your traffic will increase, period. It includes website design, website performance, content, use of keywords, social media presence, the number of times your website is linked from another site – and that’s just the beginning! But ultimately, the most important aspect is the user, specifically a positive user experience. Users are the ones who decide which results are relevant to them, and you want to make sure that result is YOU.

In short, SEO is the foundation that your website is built on. If you keep your content fresh and relevant, and make sure your audience’s experience with your brand is positive, your site will start to climb up the ranks on that result page.
